Description of Hike in the Altar Sonora Desert Dunes

We will take you to know one of the most diverse deserts in the world, it has a great diversity of species in Sonora.

We will arrive by private vehicle to the visitor center, we will begin the walk next to the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, during the tour we will observe the vestiges of the passage of a lava flow, we will also find a scarce flora consisting of shrubs that are characteristic of this region.

The walk takes place in a straight line from around 45 minutes to 1:15 hours depending on the physical condition of the participants. We will be able to see spectacular landscapes of mountains, rocks and lava flows that were formed with the eruption of the volcano.

Finally we will reach the dunes, we will climb until we reach the top. Once at the top we can enjoy unique landscapes, distinguishing the different types of environments of the region, the Sea of Cortez, the intertidal zones (Esteros), the urban areas and of course the beauty of the different areas of the same reserve.

We will pause and enjoy a light lunch that will make us regain energy for the return, we will take photographs of the adventure and after having enjoyed this magnificent adventure we will prepare to return to the starting point at a side of the Visitor Center.

If the members of the group wish to visit the Vistantes Center, we can stay for a moment so they can get to know it, then we will begin our return to Puerto Peñasco.

We recommend that you go out very early in the morning, bring closed shoes to avoid spraining your feet, bring enough water, sunscreen and this activity can be done by people with an adequate state of health.

The tour has a medium level of difficulty and is carried out with a minimum group of 4 people with a maximum occupancy of 20 participants.

*It is recommended that people with heart conditions not carry out the activity
