Walk through Simojovel, the Land of Amber 8 hours

We have prepared for you a very special tour of the town of Simojovel in the fascinating state of Chiapas. It is a walk through the town to discover its traditions and customs and also discover and learn more about amber, we will also take you to see mural paintings and the church of San Andrés. A different way to get to know new and interesting corners of our Mexico.

The experience starts very early when we pick you up at your hotel at 6:00 am and thus make the most of the day, we depart from San Cristóbal de las Casas towards Simojovel. Along the way you will be able to admire the beauty of the landscapes of the Sierra de Chiapas, and we will also cross the Zapatista towns of San Andrés and Oventic. At 9:00 am we will arrive at Simojovel where you can have breakfast and then head to the Barrio de los Pocitos and the community of Pauchil.

At this point we will begin a walkof approximately a kilometer and a half towards the amber mines, here you will be able to observe and learn how this fossil resin is extracted and worked, which is also It will be known as tears of the jungle. We continue our visit to houses and workshops where you can admire the artisans cutting and polishing amber, a unique experience to see them work and create beautiful pieces which you can buy directly from them. at a very good price.

We will give you free time to eat and then we will visit the Amber Museum, here they will explain in more detail what you observed in the mines and with the artisans. We'll head back to San Cristóbal, making a stop in Oventic to admire some mural paintings and then in San Andrés to visit its church.

We recommend you bring a light backpack where you carry water to hydrate yourself along the way, comfortable tennis-type shoes for long walks, sunscreen, and a cap or hat.
