Sierra Chincua

Sierra Chincua we are an eco-tourism center located in the Sierra Chincua, Campanario, Chivati and Huacal corridor. We are known in the region for the “Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary”.

You can tour the Sanctuary on guided walks by our specialized staff or on horseback rides. The entire route is signposted and documented, so you can learn in detail everything about the flora and fauna of this ecosystem.

The horseback riding through Sierra Chincua is very calm and at all times you will be accompanied by guides and riders who will accompany you to the colony. During the tour we will stop at various viewpoints and in areas where spotting butterflies is very easy.

Our guides for the walk are highly qualified and all are bilingual. Additionally, within the park we have a special space for camping. Spend a night under the stars in a Protected Natural Reserve. It is quite a privilege.

You will be able to get to know this wonderful Natural Reserve in a fun and original way. We will accompany you on this tour, our guides will be directing the ride at all times, both as riders and on foot.

The walk is very calm and can be done by the whole family. Our horses are very friendly, so it doesn't matter if you have no previous experience. It will be very easy for you to adapt to the gallop.

The route goes from the entrance to the Sanctuary to the colonies and back. We are going to go through the viewpoints where the views are impressive since they are more than 3 thousand meters high.

Also enjoy watching monarch butterflies, since the sanctuary is home to more than 7 million specimens.

Come and see the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in Zitácuaro, in the state of Michoacán, one of the most important Reserves in the Mexican Republic that is home to this species of butterfly best known for being the “North American Butterfly”.

Within the limits of Sierra Chincua you can enjoy walks throughout the Sanctuary that has up to 3 viewpoints located at 3,500 meters high. The tours can be guided or unguided.

In addition, you can purchase crafts within the colony area in the official establishments of the Sanctuary. And if you want to camp in nature for one night or more, we also have an area prepared for tents.
