Although windsurfing is not a very common sport in Mexico, we want to tell you about it so that you can get to know it in more detail and discover how fascinating and fun it can be. All you need is the desire to learn, to be in a beach or lake area and for the wind to blow right in your direction. Its name gives us the idea of what this water sport is all about; wind and surf, meaning this a sport caught between wind or sailing sports, and water sports.
1. I would like to know more about this sport
It was born in the mid-thirties and it was until the seventies that it gained some importance among water sports aficionados and started to become popular around the world. The first windsurfing world championship was held in 1973 and in 1981 the IOC incorporated it into the Olympic program. The first competition it was featured in were the Olympic games of Los Angeles in 1984. From then on, it has become a very attractive water sport since it is not necessary the impulse of the waves to be able to slide across the water, but rather the power of the wind is the one in charge of propelling the windsurf board.
2. What can I achieve with my windsurf board
It all depends on the level of experience you have. There is a great variety of courses in this water sport so that you can advance in your level and become a professional in the subject. At the beginning you will learn how to stand up on your board, how to maneuver the sail and how to slide according to the strength and direction of the wind. Little by little you will be able to make more difficult movements and turns, and the more experienced ones can manage to make jumps and pirouettes in the air when there are strong winds. So if you want to become a professional windsurfer, take the first step and sign up for a course to start your adventure in this fascinating water sport.
3. Exercise a large part of your body
Without a doubt, windsurfing will make you get some enviable abs if you practice it on a regular basis and, like in any other sport, this activity in the water will also help you exercise a large part of your body, especially your legs, arms and, as we said, abs. If you're just going to practice it for fun and during your vacation, don't worry, because you won't need any physical preparation or requirements to be able to do it. In fact, although it may seem difficult, it's an easy sport to learn, and adapting to the feel of the board on your feet and the sail in your hands, can happen quite fast. Remember that exercising physically also helps to exercise our mind.
4. Meet people who are passionate about water sports
This sport will undoubtedly help you socialize. When it takes place in a sunny beach environment, people are usually more open to meeting other sport fans, creating groups, and even making new friends. Enjoy windsurfing but also meet more people who like water sports in general, as you can create groups and plan weekend trips or vacation to places where sport lovers can enjoy their favourite sport. It is very common for windsurfing and kitesurfing fans to become friendly with ease since both sports are due to wind and water.
5. Outdoor sports
Windsurfing can be done on beaches all over the country, as well as on lakes in some cities such as Valle de Bravo, in the State of Mexico. Enjoy doing exercise in an environment dominated by water and sunshine to clear your mind, relieve some stress and tension, and generate endorphins by doing something you like and that is also great for your wellbeing. Besides, being in contact with nature will always help you recharge your energies before you return to your daily routine. Try to exercise or do outdoor activities as much as possible.
