Where to go scuba diving in Tulum?

• Diving in Playas de Akumal: If you're looking for your first scuba diving experience, this is the place to go. Playas de Akumal is the most popular spot in Tulum for diving baptisms, also known as 'Discover Scuba Diving'. This course usually lasts 4 to 5 days, so it's excellent if you are in town for a few days. We recommend that you double-check whether the course you have chosen includes a practical component in the pool or directly in the sea. This is simply to make sure you are comfortable and confident enough to learn. On the other hand, if you already have some certification, you can go out in boats from Tankah beach to the reefs a few kilometres from the sand. For example, you can do 1 or 2 dives at the Mesoamerica Reef, which is considered one of the most extensive, and you will be able to see a wide range of marine species.

• Diving in Dos Ojos Cenote: If you wish to explore this magnificent site by diving, you must first obtain a PADI or SSI certification. Because of the clear waters and pleasant environment, diving in this location is simply spectacular. Here you'll discover alternatives with one or two dives included, allowing you to see the caves' various entrances and passageways. It's also an excellent location for obtaining your Advanced Certification. This tour usually lasts 5 hours and includes everything from tanks to wetsuits and a nutritious lunch.

• Casa Cenote Dive: Also known as Cenote Manatee, this cenote has exposed waters surrounded by mangroves, providing shade and dance of light with the sun's rays. In contrast to Dos Ojos, you will enjoy the experience if you have a basic level of diving or an Open Water certification, as the maximum depth is 6 meters. Since there is generally an entry to the sea bed, this type of trip will last 1 to 2 hours, during which you will be able to see both fresh and saltwater fish.

• Tulum freediving course: This is another adventure you should add to your to-do list. Tulum is also a great site to visit if you want to try Free Diving. This sport is mainly done in cenotes such as Encantado, Casa Cenote, and Dos Ojos. Because it is a technique that involves time, breaks, and a lot of patience, the experience usually lasts 8 hours. You will study breathing and depth techniques during the course. Even if you already have your freediving certification, these cenotes will provide you with experiences appropriate for your level.

Another reason why Tulum is a diving paradise is that the water temperature (especially in the cenotes) is warm and consistent throughout the year, making diving possible at any time of year. However, if you want to undertake your open-water diving experience, we recommend doing it between May and November. Take advantage of the water's visibility and see anything from hawksbill turtles to whale sharks during these months!
